A Year in Review

When I think back over 2020, it is nearly impossible to remove COVID from the equation. It has challenged every aspect of my wellbeing – physical, mental, and emotional. Some days it was about thriving and others it was about surviving. Every challenge (including this one) teaches us something about ourselves and provides us with new opportunities. I know these things, but even as I sat down to write this I was being challenged to find the positive. What snapped me back was going through the photos I have taken this year (almost 2000!). That is MY year, not COVID!

So back to this challenge – when 2020 began I had not set a mileage goal beyond surpassing my 2019 miles. I was still solely focused on keep moving every day. As the year progressed my miles became an outlet and a way for me to channel the physical, mental, and emotional stress I was faced with as an essential worker in the health care industry (I am truly thankful not to have been out of work). Despite cancelled plans and park/trail closures I became stronger and healthier along the way. I discovered new places that were not on my list, made new friends, set some lofty and occasionally revised goals for myself, and became inspired by others in the group to incorporate new activities into my life next year. Biking, backpacking and thru-hiking here I come!

My goal is not yet met for this year but I am super close and am working towards making it happen. I also have my eye towards 2021 goals and what those might look like for me. The most important thing is that I am proud of me for staying committed. I am proud of what my body has accomplished. I am amazed at what I have achieved this year!
